Magnetic Separation

General

Bulk materials transported from mines to the processing/consuming plants are required to be treated magnetically to remove tramp iron pieces that are carried along with the material, to prevent damage to the costly equipment in the downstream process.

Rexline supplies and integrates suspended electromagnetic, permanent-magnet and self-cleaning overband separators for the removal of tramp ferrous material. Equipment selection is based on belt width and speed, burden depth, material density, installation position, required separation performance and site conditions. They find application in core-sector industries like fertilizer, cement, coal, power generation, chemical and steel plants, etc.

PBL Magnets are designed and manufactured to the latest technological developments in the field of electromagnetism in the highly industrialized countries. Our design meets stringent specifications and application requirements to render long, satisfactory performance. They conform to international standards for both performance and safety.

PBL has always endeavoured to upgrade its technology for efficiently servicing its customers, and has entered into technical collaboration with the world-renowned Ets Raoul LENOIR of France for manufacturing magnets to their design.

Determination of Operating Height

Burden height of the material can be worked out using the following formula:

Burden Height (in mm)
= (495 × TPH) / (Belt width × Belt speed × density)

All components located within the zone of active magnetic field should be of non-magnetic material.

Selection

Since other factors may affect the choice of the proper magnet, intelligent engineering practice dictates that each application be individually reviewed by a PBL application engineer before the selection is made. The following information is required to make a proper recommendation:

Capacity of the conveyor in tonnes per hour (TPH)
Belt width
Burden depth
Maximum lump size
Size and shape (minimum and maximum) of tramp iron pieces to be removed
Troughing angle
Bulk density of the material
Arrangement of the magnet, e.g. cross belt or inline
Conveyor speed
Ambient temperature
Available power supply
